Photo Caption:

An Afghan girl gestures playfully at the camera as she plays with other children amongst war damaged vehicles and buildings in Kabul, Afghanistan, Sunday, Nov. 14, 2004 during the Eid al-Fitr holiday.

Photographer's Note:

“With the Taliban taking control, Afghanistan has regressed back to the medieval ages once more. After all these years, the wheel has ground back to where it was for this impoverished part of the world, and all the risks and loss of life by so many now seems so futile. Afghanistan always pulled me down, the dry landscape, the hardship faced by the average Afghan for basic survival, and above all the constant cloud of violence hanging like the proverbial sword. The US pullout has killed hope, and that is the biggest loss right now...”
